| Bio: | You might describe me as a bit of a jet-setting nomad. I have been splitting my time between Europe and North America, with a brief forray into North Africa last spring. I'm an American who has been living in Stockholm for almost three years now. My roots are in Idaho Falls, ID USA, which I jokingly refer to as "urban Idaho" (definitely a bit of a misnomer), since we are the second largest town in Idaho with a population of around 50,000. For other insights into my psyche, I'm an only child that has a penchant for getting what I want, for better or for worse. I have no children, only a cat that lives on another continent. I run on what my friends and family call "Charlotte Time," referring to the fact that I am what I like to call "time optimistic." I am also an avid user of parentheses. (See below). I have been likened to various natural phenomena, somehow earning the title of "Hurricane Charlotte" from an erstwhile roommate, and my mom calls me her "comet," referring to the fact that I often leave a trail of lights on as I walk through the house. I am fantastic at devising grand plots and schemes, but as I have recently discovered during a misadventure in Morroco, my sense of adventure is much greater than my tolerance for discomfort. I should have learned this long ago when I signed up for a weeklong river guide training with Orion Expeditions in Seattle. After being wet, cold, hungry (and did I mention wet??) for seven days, I learned that I was not, in fact, a river rat. I did, however, manage to diversify my otherwise academic CV with the occupation of "River Guide" for one summer. I have studied and lived in Seattle, WA for three years, with my junior year abroad in Leiden, the Netherlands. Along the way, I have amassed an odd assortment of degrees--international studies with an emphasis in french, history, and a masters degree in EU politics. (Next year I can add "teachers certificate" to the list.) My current job can best be described as "research" (more or less concerned with the influence of the European Union on the public administrations of the Baltic countries), and I am at a point in my life where I am seeking other creative outlets, such as this. The next step involves a break from academics (my mom has pointed out that I haven't stopped going to school since kindergarten), but possibly a trip back to the university to get my teacher's certification. I love the written word, in whatever language, and am trying to find some time to do some writing for myself (and whoever else happens to stumble across it). I look forward to making new friends here, and reconnecting with old ones. (And after scrolling through my "interest list," I realized I am the only LJ user who listed "neo-institutional theory" as an interest. However, I am also the only one who listed "campers boots." I'm not quite sure what that says about me. A nerd with great taste in shoes?) ![]() | |||||
